Obituary for Joseph Heitzler
JOSEPH HEITZLER, 98, of Wesley Willows in Rockford, IL, formerly of Prophetstown, IL, died Saturday, January 29, 2011 at Rockford Memorial Hospital in Rockford, IL. Joseph was born January 26, 1913 in Morrison, IL, to Frank and Bertha (Nehlig) Heitzler. He graduated from Prophetstown High School and attended 2 years at St. Ambrose College. Joe married Della Lippens on September 16, 1939 in Hooppole, IL. She died February 22, 2004. He worked for the Sterling Steel Company in Sterling, IL for several years and later made a living farming in the rural Prophetstown area. He bred and developed purebred Guernsey cattle. Joe served on the board of directors for the Farm Credit Services. He was a member of the Holy Name Society and trustee of the St. Mary of the Field Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Maple City Band in Geneseo. Joe played violin, trumpet, and harmonica. Survivors include one daughter, Lorita (Tony) Ooyen of Winnebago, IL; one son, Larry Heitzler and fianc"e Peg Fried of Prophetstown, IL; four grandchildren, Kelly and Nicki Heitzler; Yolanda (Rob) Carrasco and Mark (Chris) Ooyen; and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Della; one sister, Marie Moore; and one brother, Cyril Heitzler.
