Obituary for Joseph Charles Klimson
JOSEPH CHARLES KLIMSON, 93, of Morrison, IL, died Monday, June 4, 2018, at Resthave Home, Morrison, IL.
The funeral service will be 11:00 AM Saturday, June 9, 2018 at the Morrison United Methodist Church. Pastor Ryan Sutton, pastor of Morrison United Methodist Church and Rev. Cheryl Esbrook, retired pastor will co-officiate. The visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 PM Friday, June 8, 2018 at the Morrison United Methodist Church. The Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Interment will be at Grove Hill Cemetery in Morrison.
Joe was born September 29, 1924, in Chicago, IL, to Joseph S. and Florence (Werner) Klimson. He was educated in the Chicago Public Grade Schools and was a graduate of Calumet High School. Joe served in the U.S. Navy Armed Guard during World War II. He married Dorothy P. Willer on February 3, 1944 in Chicago, IL. She died in January of 1972. He later married Polly Snyder on July 9, 1977, in Morrison, IL. Joe was first employed by Ken and Fred’s Sinclair Gas Station in Morrison, then he was employed by Liquid Carbonic, General Electric, Bill’s Shell Gas Station, Mills Ford Garage, and Volckmann’s Furniture Factory all in Morrison. He was also employed at McCarthy Construction Company in Davenport, IA and Korman Construction Company in Sterling, IL. He worked as a custodian at Morrison High School, owned and operated Joe’s Conoco Gas Station in Morrison, and was employed at Vend-Omack in Morrison until retirement. Following retirement, he was employed by R.C. Smith Transportation in Morrison. He was a member of Morrison, Coleta, Fenton and Ottawa First United Methodist Churches and a member of the United Marriage Encounter. Joe was a member of Morrison Kiwanis Club, and two time president and member of Ottawa Golden K Kiwanis Club. He was a life member of Morrison VFW Post #8281 and past Commander and Quarter Master. He was a life member of American Legion Morrison Post #328. Joe was a member and past president of the Morrison Recreation Association and was instrumental in construction of the Morrison Little League Baseball diamond at Water Works Park in Morrison. Joe enjoyed photography and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. He greatly enjoyed the fellowship of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Memorials to Resthave Home and Morrison United Methodist Church have been established.
Survivors include his wife, Polly of Fulton; three daughters, Nora (Daniel) Chesire of Omaha, NE; Nancy (Larry) Schuler of Lyndon, IL; and Amy West of Morrison, IL; two sons, Joseph Klimson of Morrison and Paul (Courtney) Klimson of New York, NY; nine grandchildren, Rob (Taryn) Chesire; Kellie (Jeff) Olson; John West; Rachael (Justin) Owen; Tim (Nikki) West; Alec, Kurtis, Nick, and Max Klimson; six great-grandchildren,; two sisters, Marian Richner of Arkansas and Leona Meyers of Sheridan, MI.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy; one daughter, Sue Anne Klimson in infancy; one sister, Florence Daniels; and five brothers, Clarence, Dave, Tom, Jimmie and Don Klimson.
