Obituary for Joseph B. Reichard, Jr.
JOSEPH B. REICHARD, JR., 80, of 102 College Avenue in Prophetstown, IL died Monday, March 23, 2009 at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Morrison, IL. Joe was born on July 12, 1928 in Sterling, IL to Joseph B. and Olive J. (Johnson) Reichard Sr. He was a 1946 graduate of Prophetstown High School in Prophetstown, IL. He was enlisted in the U.S. Army from 1946-1948. Joe served in occupation duty in Japan with the 25th Infantry Division and was honorably discharged in 1948. He was employed for a number of years with Reichard"s Insurance Agency in Prophetstown, IL. In 1963 he was appointed the Postmaster of Prophetstown and continued in that position until retiring in 1983. Joe was a member of the American Legion Prophetstown Post #522 and the VFW Post #8281. He was also a member of the Prophetstown Fire Department from 1952-1974 and served as fire chief from 1961-1965. Joe was an avid Cubs fan. Survivors include four daughters, Renee Brandt of Folsom, CA, Rita Reichard of Tracy, CA, Jamie Reichard of Lyndon, IL and Diane Reichard of Chicago, IL; one step-daughter, Deborah (Bill) Durand of Davenport, IA; six grandchildren; and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one son, Mark Reichard.
