Obituary for John F. Bollivar

JOHN FREDERICK BOLLIVAR, 94, of Prophetstown, IL, died Thursday, December 14, 2023, at Allure of Prophetstown.


His funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at Leon United Methodist Church with Rev. Joey Garcea officiating. A visitation will be held starting at 11:00 AM until the start of the service. The Bosma-Gibson Funeral Home in Prophetstown is in charge of arrangements. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Prophetstown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Leon United Methodist Church and Prophetstown Ambulance.


John was born October 5, 1929, in Dixon, IL, to Everett Albert and Myrtle (Huyett) Bollivar. He graduated from Tampico High School and went on to serve in the 1st infantry of the United States Army. He married Marjorie Ann Betts on June 20, 1954, in Morrison, IL. She died October 19, 1986. He later married Patty J. (Stone) Naftzger on August 20, 1988, in Prophetstown. She died May 30, 2023. John was the owner of Bollivar Plumbing and Heating until his retirement in 1996. He also served the community as the Prophetstown Township Supervisor for several years. John was a member of Leon United Methodist Church. He was also a member of Prophet Hills Country Club and was an avid bowler. John enjoyed spending his winters in Texas with Patty by his side.


Survivors include three daughters, Johnna Haggerty of Waukee, IA, Jackie Bollivar of Fort Atkinson, IA and Jaydeane (Mike Johnson) Berns of Calmar IA; two stepsons, Jim (Bliss) Naftzger of Prophetstown, IL and Mike (Kelly) Naftzger of Loves Park, IL; five grandchildren, Cassidy, Monica, Anna, Levi, and Sophia; two great-grandchildren, Jaden and Morgan; six step-grandchildren, Christian, Lauren, Matthew, Mariah, Adam and Zayne; ten step-great-grandchildren, Brayden, Elivia, Mason, Ellie, Luke, Emersyn, Nikki, Madison, James and Azenia; two sisters, Alice VanDeVoorde of Erie,IL and Caroline (Sam) Parkinson of Reedsburg, WI.


He was preceded in death by his parents; both wives, Marjorie and Patty; four brothers, Donald, Wayne, Clarence and Billy Bollivar.
