Obituaries
John E. Koenes, Sr., 72, of Fulton, IL, died Saturday, August 28, 2021, at his home.
His funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, September 2, 2021, at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Homes with Mr. Ken Renkes officiating. A visitation will precede the service from 12:00 PM until the time of the funeral. Interment will be at Fulton Township Cemetery in Fulton, IL. A memorial has been established to Wounded Warriors Project.
John was born September 6, 1948, in Clinton, IA, to Alvin J. and Kathleen “Kay” C. (McDeVitt) Koenes. He was educated in the Fulton Grade School and was a 1966 graduate of Fulton High School. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. John married Joan F. Rickerl on July 17, 1982, in Fulton, IL. He was employed at Commonwealth Edison in maintenance and at Butcher’s Industrial Movers in Morrison, IL. John was member of the Fulton American Legion Post #402, Morrison VFW, and the Clinton- AmVets Post # 28. He also was a member of the Morrison Sportsman Club. John enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting.
Survivors include his wife, Joan; one daughter, Katie (Jason) Johnson of Thomson, IL; one son, John Koenes Jr. of Fulton, IL; three grandchildren, Cassie and Jasmine Johnson and Brock Koenes; one great-grandson, Wyatt Keckler; one sister, Laura Koenes of Hemet, CA; one nephew, Jesse Koenes of Hemet, CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, James Koenes.
