Obituary for Joe Postma
JOE POSTMA, 89, of Mercy Living Center North, Clinton, IA formerly of Fulton, IL, died Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at the Living Center. Joe was born May 11, 1922 in Lutjegast, Groningen, Holland to Pieter and Barbara (Vander Noord) Postma. He was educated in Holland and married Audrey Zuiderveld on January 14, 1947 in Grootegast, Holland. She died April 12, 2008. Joe first was engaged in farming in the rural Calamus, IA area. He then was employed as a metal worker for J.T. Cullen Company in Fulton, IL until December of 1981. He then worked for Mercy Medical Center in Clinton, IA until retiring May 1, 1987. Joe was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Fulton. He had served as the Fulton Schools Crossing Guard for several years and enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and yardwork. Survivors include one daughter, Joyce (Robin) Hewer of Lost Nation, IA; four sons, Peter (Liudmyla) Postma of Clinton, IA, Martin (Carla) Postma of Sterling, IL, Joe E. Postma of Fulton, IL, and Richard Postma of Clinton, IA; eight grandchildren, Amy (Jason) Stoll, Jonathan (Brooke) Hewer, Melissa Shocker, Nicholas Postma, Carrie (Jim) Ryan, Chelsea Postma, Jessica (Darrin) Anderson, and Michael Postma; eleven great grandchildren; two sisters, Grace Vander Ploeg of Grand Rapids, MI and Leen Vander Ploeg of Holland and one brother, Roelf Postma of Holland. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Audrey; and one great grandson.
