Obituary for Joanne Josie Snodgrass-Johnson
JOANNE "JOSIE" SNODGRASS-JOHNSON, 84, of Resthave Nursing Home, Morrison, IL, died Tuesday, January 29, 2013, at the nursing home. Josie was born January 20, 1929, in Evansville, IN, to George M. and Ruth F. (Smalley) Baird. She was educated in the Culver Grade School and was a graduate of Bosse High School both in Evansville, IN. She married Robert F. Snodgrass on May 8, 1948, in Evansville, IN. She later married Harry Johnson on February 14, 1989, in Clinton, IA. Josie was first employed by General Electric and later by the Whiteside News Sentinel both in Morrison. She was a member of St. Anne"s Episcopal Church in Morrison and the church"s Altar Guild. She was also a member of the Morrison Chamber of Commerce, the Main Street Merchants Association, and the Morrison Music Theater Association. She enjoyed sewing and loved to sing and dance. She collected antique buttons and performed many presentations related to the buttons. Josie was also a member of the Prophetstown Lions Club, the Prophetstown Toy for Tots, and assisted with the direction and promotion of the Prophetstown Fourth of July Celebration. She never met anyone she didn"t love unconditionally. She will always be remembered for her ever-present smile. Survivors include her husband, Harry; three daughters, Beth (Lonnie) Rice and Nina (Charles) Rumfelt both of Morrison, IL; Susan (James) Miller of Prophetstown, IL; one son, Robert (JoAnn) Snodgrass of Morrison, IL; one step daughter, Erica Hostetler of Ithaca, NY; one step son, Eric (Mimi) Johnson of Bettendorf, IA; thirteen grandchildren, Major Steven Rice, Larry (Kristy) Rice, Sarah (Mitch) Andreina, Lisa (Mike) Lewis, Sheri (Mike) Nichols, Amanda (Drew) Blean, Faith Rumfelt, Amanda (Brent) Swift, Virginia Rumfelt, Nina (Justin) Vogel, Michael Rumfelt, Jim (Tara) Miller, and Logan Miller; four step grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; one sister, Virginia (Joe) Phillips of Brownsburg, IN; one brother, Dr. Keith (Joyce) Baird of Crawfordsville, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents and one daughter, Patricia in infancy.
