Obituary for Jewell G. Hummel
JEWELL G. HUMMEL, 85, of Prophetstown, IL, died Thursday, November 17, 2016 at CGH Medical Center in Sterling, IL.Jewell was born April 29, 1931, in Morrison, IL, to Murrell and Loretta (Massey) Jensen. She was educated in the Morrison grade schools and graduated from Prophetstown High School. Jewell married Robert W. Hummel on August 12, 1951, in Prophetstown, IL. He died February 2, 2006. Jewell was first employed as a bookkeeper at the Ben Franklin Dime Store in Prophetstown and later at General Electric in Morrison until retiring in 1991. Jewell was a member of the Prophetstown United Methodist Church where she was involved in the Womens Circle. Jewell enjoyed reading, playing Sudoku, and watching TV, especially the Chicago Cubs and Bears. The most important thing in Jewells life was her family.Survivors include three sons, Dana (Diane) Hummel of Tiffin, IA; Todd W. (Rebecca) Hummel of Harrisonburg, VA; and Dell (Betina) Hummel of Naperville, IL; eleven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Janice Hill of Lafayette, IA; one brother, Douglas (Shirley) Jensen of Prophetstown; and a special family member, Rev. Jim (Sherry) Jensen of Prophetstown.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; one granddaughter, Anna Beth Hummel; and one brother, James Jensen.
