Obituary for Jerry W. Parker
Jerry W. Parker, 84, of Hartwick, Iowa died on December 24, 2021 at UnityPoint Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

A graveside service and burial, open to the public, are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 30th, at Lusk Memorial Cemetery in Albany, Illinois.

Memorial contributions can be designated to the Hartwick Volunteer Fire Department.

Jerry was born on May 24, 1937, in Garden Plain, Illinois the son of Harold Delos and Evabelle Curry Parker. He was raised on a farm near Garden Plain and attended a country school prior to graduating from Fulton (Illinois) High School in 1955. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was stationed in the United States and Germany.

On June 19, 1957, he was united in marriage to Marlee Ann Rupert, in Fulton; a union of 64 years. The couple lived in Fulton for several years and later moved to Albany, where they resided until moving to Hartwick in 2011.

For many years, Jerry was a heavy machinery operator, working independently, and then in 1987, he began working for the U.S. Corps of Engineers. He operated a large crane while working on the Locks and Dams along the Mississippi River. He retired in 2000. Jerry and Marlee wintered in Arizona for 15 years after his retirement.

Jerry was a proud member of the Local Union #537, in Milan, Illinois, a local volunteer of the Boy Scouts assisting with their camping trips and Jamborees, and a volunteer firefighter. He was a collector of toy tractors, especially Allis-Chalmers models and he enjoyed camping and traveling. His travels had taken him to nearly all 50 U.S. states.

Survivors include his wife, Marlee of Hartwick; three sons, Jeff (Eric) Parker of Boston, Massachusetts, Todd (Margo) Parker of Victor, Iowa, and Mike (Blanca) Parker of Fairfield, Iowa; three grandchildren, Deanna Newton, and Tiffany and Sebastian Parker; three great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Hansen, Brianna Newton, and Derik Parker; and two siblings, Don Parker of Warsaw, Indiana and Marge Johnson of Phoenix, Arizona. He was preceded death by his parents; a grandson, Derik Parker; three brothers; and two sisters.
