Obituary for Jennie Venhuizen
JENNIE VENHUIZEN, 94, of 615 " 15th Avenue, Fulton, IL, died Monday, October 26, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center North in Clinton, IA. Jennie was born December 28, 1914, in Newton Township, IL, to Jacob and Eva (Strating) DeVries. She was a 1932 graduate of Erie Community High School in Erie, IL. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Hope College in Holland, MI. She married Jacob Venhuizen on January 24, 1941, in Erie. He died April 6, 2004. Jennie taught for 5 years in a local one room country school. Most recently she taught for 16 years at the Fulton Elementary School in Fulton, IL. She was a member of the Trinity Reformed Church in Fulton, and the church"s Hannah Mission and Priscilla Society, served as a Sunday school teacher and Bible study group leader. She was recently recognized as the oldest living member of Trinity Reformed Church. Jennie enjoyed all needlework, including knitting, crocheting, and cross stitching. She was an avid reader and enjoyed watching TV game shows. Survivors include two sons, Stanley (Maryellen) Venhuizen of Fulton, IL and Gary (Barbara) Venhuizen of Lindale, TX; one son-in-law, Terry Van Zee of Boulder, CO; one sister-in-law, Marian DeVries of Winfield, IA; seven grandchildren, Amy (Nick) Promenschenkel, Paul (Cynthia) Venhuizen, Celia (Scott) Groff, Melissa Goodwin, Angela (Greg) Marcum, Joshua VanZee (Andrea Mattson), Sarah Van Zee (Pat Jensen); six great grandchildren, Sarah Promenschenkel, Bailey and Reagan Goodwin, Carter and Mikayla Marcum, Carter VanZee; one sister, Ella Mae (Alfred) Norman of Fulton, IL; one brother, John (Ruth) DeVries of Palo Alto, CA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob; one son, Robert G. Venhuizen, one daughter, Lois VanZee; one sister, Marie VanZuiden; one brother, Herman DeVries.
