Obituary for Jennie M. Van Zuiden
JENNIE M. VAN ZUIDEN, 102, of Four Seasons Living Center, Morrison, IL, died Monday, February 28, 2011 at the Living Center. Jennie was born May 28, 1908 in Fenton, IL, to Harry & Grace (Rose) Housenga. She attended grade school in Fenton. Jennie married Henry VanZuiden on December 18, 1926. He died in 1977. She worked at the Wilkens Grocery Store, then later at the Morrison Meat Locker. After many years of employment, she made a living as a homemaker in Morrison. She was a member of the Ebenezer Reformed Church in Morrison. For years she was a member of the quilting club at the church, and was on the funeral luncheon committee for over 50 years. Jennie was known for her cooking and never found a recipe that she would not attempt. She especially loved to cook during the holidays. She loved to tend her large garden and had a knack for unusual plants. Survivors include one very special sister-in-law, Leona VanZuiden of Morrison; one granddaughter, Jane (Don) Chambers of Kingston, IL; one grandson, Dale (Nancy) Holesinger of Camanche, IA; many great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry; one daughter, Harriet Holesinger; three sisters, Kathryn Bealer, Gertrude "Babe" Abbott, and Grace Tervelt; two brothers, Harold and John Housenga.
