Obituary for Jeanette Smith
JEANETTE SMITH, 97, of Morrison, IL, died Saturday, January 20, 2007 at her daughter"s home in Cherry Valley, IL. Jeanette was born April 17, 1909 in Morrison, IL to Harry J. and Anna (Johnson) Newendyke. She was educated in the rural Whiteside County schools. She married John W. Smith on December 31, 1930 in Lyndon, IL. He died June 29, 1964. Jeanette farmed, along with her husband, in the rural Morrison area. She was a member of the Ebenezer Reformed Church in Morrison and a charter member of the Lydian and Ladies Aid Societies. She also was a member of the quilters at the church. Jeanette was an avid reader and loved to do crossword and crypotquote puzzles. She listened to the Moody radio broadcasts and enjoyed taking walks. Survivors include one daughter, Jereen (Mrs. Richard) Landsee of Cherry Valley, IL; two grandchildren, Kim (Mrs. Jim) Hughart of Belvidere, IL and Kelly McMahon of Rockford, IL; five great grandchildren, Courtney Hughart, Jacqui Hughart, Meghan McMahon, Cassidy McMahon, Nicholas (Sara) Hughart; one great great grandchild, Hailey Hughart; one sister, Dora (Mrs. Homer) Pessman of Morrison, IL. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; two sisters, Phern Tenboer and Hattie DeHamer; one brother, Jay Newendyke.
