Obituary for Jean DeWeerdt
JEAN DE WEERDT, 90, of Mercy Living Center North, Clinton, IA, formerly of Fulton, IL, died Friday, April 8, 2011 at the Living Center. Jean was born October 3, 1920 in Thomson, IL, to Ralph and Martha (Housenga) Balk. She was educated in the Thomson and Fulton grade schools. Jean married Wilbur L. DeWeerdt on December 1, 1939 in Fulton. He died June 14, 1993. Jean was employed as an inspector by the former Clinton Garment Factory in Clinton, IA. She was a member of Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Fulton and the church"s Lydia Society. She had been a volunteer for the Fulton Food Pantry. A memorial has been established to Bethel Christian Reformed Church. Survivors include one daughter, Martha (Mark) Bullis of Ventura, CA; two sons, Byron (Deb) DeWeerdt of Clinton, IA and David DeWeerdt of Davenport, IA; fifteen grandchildren; Todd Bullis, Mikel Bullis, Terese Bullis, Matthew Bullis, Tyler Bullis, Tom Bullis, Tracy Bullis, Deja Bullis, Steve DeWeerdt, Amy Klouk, Marry Tayon, Laurie Mullholland, Dustin DeWeerdt, Joshua DeWeerdt, Dylan DeWeerdt; many great grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret DeWeerdt of Tucson, AZ and Betty Faber of Fulton, IL. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur; one son, Richard DeWeerdt; one grandson, Matthew DeWeerdt; two sisters, Inez Schaver and Arlene Balk; four brothers, Neil Balk, Mike Balk, Paul Balk, and John R. Balk.
