Obituary for Jay J. Wilkens
JAY J. WILKENS, 87, of Morrison, IL, died Monday, December 10, 2012, at Morrison Community Hospital, Morrison, IL. Jay was born August 12, 1925, in Fulton, IL, to John C. and Wilhemina "Minnie" (Eissens) Wilkens. He was educated in the Ustick Schools in Fulton. Jay served in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII. He married Virginia A. Decker on March 19, 1946, in Morrison, IL. Jay farmed in the Morrison area all of his life. He was a member of the Ebenezer Reformed Church in Morrison, where he served as an elder and deacon. He was also a member of Whiteside County Farm Bureau and Pheasants Forever. Jay loved being outdoors and enjoyed elk hunting. His primary interest was spending time with his family. He was proud of every one of them. Survivors include his wife, Virginia; four daughters, Sandra Wilkens of Morrison, IL; Deborah (Gary) Juist of Polo, IL; Ellyn Sue (Charles)Osterday of New Paris, IN; and Cheryl (Brian) Onken of Morrison, IL; one son, Steven (Lou Ann) Wilkens of Lanark, IL; fourteen grandchildren, Sarah (Kristopher) Schmidt, Rachel (Scott) Phillips, Daniel (Jani) Wilkens, Andrew (Raina) Wilkens, Matthew Britini) Wilkens, Laura (Caleb) Fightmaster, Charles (Kristi) Osterday III, Darrin (Abby) Osterday, Eric (Elizabeth) Osterday, Mitchell Osterday, Adam (Veronica) Miller, Katey Miller, Emily (Cody Hansen) Miller, and Sadie Onken; twenty great grandchildren, Wade and Madelyn Hackbarth; Jordan, Elizabeth, Gracyn, and Jaicee Schmidt; Jake, Seth, and Ethan Phillips; Anika and Eli Wilkens; Harper Grace Wilkens; Allyson Osterday; Christian Florea; Anna Osterday; Graycen Osterday; Owen, Liam, and Charlotte Osterday; and Kinsley Miller; two sisters, Alice Houzenga of Morrison, IL and Eunice Miller of Dixon, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Inez Valk and Rena Vandereide; and one brother, Cornelius Wilkens.
