Obituary for Janice M. Hummel
JANICE M. HUMMEL, 82, of Prophetstown, IL, died Saturday, August 31, 2013, at Coventry Living Center, Sterling, IL. Janice was born May 20, 1931, in Moline, IL, to Howard C. and Ruth V. (Banion) Olinger. She was educated in the Erie Grade School in Erie, IL and attended business college. Jan married Richard L. "Dick" Hummel on October 3, 1954, in Erie, IL. He died November 18, 2009. Jan was first employed by the former Eclipse Manufacturing in Prophetstown. She then was employed by the Prophetstown Park District Pool, the former Penberthy Manufacturing, a law office, and most recently Fenn Drug Store all in Prophetstown. Jan was a member of the Prophetstown United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women"s Association, Church Women United, and served on several church related committees. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother and a Girl Scout leader. Jan was also president of the Prophetstown American Field Service and served as regional coordinator for placement of students. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, spending time with her family and friends, and her weekly coffee group. Survivors include two daughters, Claudia (Don) Michaels of Grayslake, IL and JoEllen (Barry) Morphew of Prophetstown, IL; two sons, Paul Hummel of Prophetstown, IL and Daniel (Michele) Hummel of Waukegan, IL; seven grandchildren, Sean Michaels, Shannon Michaels, Nicolas (Gina) Morphew, Bobbie Blumhoff, Mitchell (Stacey) Hummel, Randee (Brandon) Johnson, and Joshua Hummel; four great-grandchildren, Hanna and Isabelle Blumhoff, Grant Morphew, and Cohen Johnson. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dick; and one grandson, Andrew James Hummel.
