Obituary for James Upton Wiersema
JAMES “JIM” UPTON WIERSEMA, 68, of Lyndon, IL, died Monday, November 23, 2020, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling, IL.
Cremation rites have been accorded. There will be no visitation. A private family graveside service will be held at Lyndon Township Cemetery in Lyndon, IL. The Bosma-Gibson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Jim was born July 29, 1952, in Morrison, IL, son of Richard and Alice (Upton) Maronde Jr. He was educated in the Lyndon school system and graduated from Prophetstown High School in Prophetstown, IL. Jim married Karen L. Hudders on July 3, 1971, in Hooppole, IL. He was a brick layer for Union Local #6 out of Rockford for 48 years. Jim loved sports. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan. For many years Jim was involved in the Prophetstown Athletic Boosters, and he coached Little League and American Legion Baseball. Jim enjoyed spending time with his kids, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Survivors include his wife, Karen; two sons, Jason (Marie) Wiersema of Rockford, IL; and Mike (Heidi) Wiersema of Tolono, IL; two grandchildren, Taylor and Austin Wiersema; his father Richard (Sharon) Maronde Jr. of Prophetstown; one brother, Richard (Diana) Maronde III of Prophetstown; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Alice; one brother, Bill Wiersema; his grandparents; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law.
