Obituary for James L. Casson
JAMES E. CASSON, 79, of Prophetstown, IL, died Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at his home.
His funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 21, 2022 at the Bosma-Gibson Funeral Home in Prophetstown, with Rev. Father Antoni J. Kretowicz of St. Catherine Catholic Church officiating. There will be a visitation from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Sunday February 20th at the funeral home. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery in Prophetstown. A memorial has been established for the Education Foundation.
James was born June 9, 1942, in Sterling, IL, to James Clifford and Anna Mae (Oetzel) Casson. He attended Yorktown Grade School and was a graduate of Tampico High School in Tampico, IL. He later graduated from Western IL University with a Bachelor’s Degree, and went on to receive his Master’s in Education from the University of Wisconsin – Platteville. On August 6, 1966 he married Connie Murphy in Galena, IL. He worked for the Prophetstown – Lyndon School District for 40 years, teaching P.E. and Industrial Arts until becoming the school’s counselor. Jim also coached boy’s basketball. After retirement Jim became the sexton of Riverside Cemetery in Prophetstown and Lyndon Twp. Cemetery in Lyndon. Jim loved spending time wood-working and making furniture for his friends and family. He enjoyed golfing and riding Harleys with his wife. Together they spent a lot of time with friends on bike trips. He also enjoyed playing in the Arkansas Connection Blue Grass Band.
Survivors include his wife, Connie; two daughters, Jane (Bruce) Franks of Prophetstown and Cathy (Dennis) Woods of Rock Island, IL; one son, Russ Casson of Rock Falls, IL; four grandchildren, Lexie Lindskog, Maisy Woods, Owen and Elliot Casson; seven step grandchildren, Alex Champagne, Emily Kester, Ian Franks Olivia Franks, Jacinda Woods, Chelsea Woods and Dallas Woods; one great grandson, Colt Lindskog; eight step great grandchildren; one sister, Betty (Bob) Apple-Glassburn of Tampico, IL; two sisters-in-law, Jean (Robert) Dimke of Galena, IL and Elizabeth Murphy of Dubuque, IA; one brother-in-law, Terry Murphy of Galena.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Jessica Alborn; his father and mother-in-law, Boise and Frances Murphy; a sister-in-law, Kay Murphy; three brothers-in-law, Bill and Charles Murphy and Fred Glassburn.
