Obituary for Jacob Medema, Jr.
JACOB MEDEMA, JR., 94, of Jersey Ridge Place in Davenport, IA; formerly of Fulton, IL, died Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at Jersey Ridge Place.
His funeral service will be at 10:45 a.m. Monday, August 7, 2023 at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Lingle officiating. A visitation will precede the service, starting at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at Calvary Hill Cemetery in Fulton.
Jake was born September 28, 1928, on the farm belonging to Jacob Medema, Sr. and Helen (Temple) Medema, in rural Morrison, IL, what is presently Lake Carlton. He was educated in the rural Whiteside County Schools. In April of 1952, he joined the U. S. Marine Corps, attended Aviation School, and then served as a corporal with the Aviation Metalworkers during the Korean War. On December 27, 1948, he married Eleanor M. Sullivan at St. Irenaeus Catholic Church in Clinton, IA. She died December 5, 2017. Jake worked in the maintenance department at General Electric in Morrison for 39 years. He and his wife ran a farm in Ustick Township for 20 years. He was a phenomenal wood-turner. He used his talent and skill to produce many beautiful award-winning vases and canes. Jake enjoyed fishing, gardening and anything nature related.
Survivors include two sons, Steven L. Medema of Bettendorf, IA and Jeffrey M. Medema of Streator, IL; six grandchildren, Ty Medema, Mark (Shelsey) Medema, Zac (Maggie) Medema, Arianna Medema, Nick (Ashley) Medema and Jacob Medema; ten great grandchildren; one sister, Erma McDivitt of Tennessee.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor; one daughter-in-law, Paula Medema; two sisters, Hilda Temple and Marian Ivey; four brothers, Garrett Medema, Edward Medema, George Medema and John Medema.
