Obituary for Isaac Klavenga
ISAAC "IKE" KLAVENGA, 97, of Wyndcrest Nursing Home in Clinton, IA, formerly of Fulton, IL, died Tuesday, November 1, 2005 at the nursing home. Ike was born February 25, 1908, in Paterson, NJ to John and Fredreka (Zaagman) Klavenga. He was educated in the Fulton Grade School and the Fulton Christian School. He married Mettie M. Oostenryk on April 10, 1942 in Fulton. She died on October 9, 1987. He later married Genevieve Pessman-VanVuren on February 14, 1989. She died on January 27, 1999. Ike engaged in farming in the rural Fulton area. Later, he was employed by the former Burpee Seed Company in Clinton. He was a member of the Second Reformed Church in Fulton. Ike enjoyed flower gardening. Survivors include one step daughter, Joyce (Mrs. Charles) Jacobson of Kirkland, IL; one step son, Gordon (Mary) Van Vuren of Grand Rapids, MI; eight step grandchildren, several step great grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Anna Braun, Mrs. Angeline Miley, Bernice Klavenga and Clara Klavenga " all of Fulton; one brother, Henry (Genevieve) Klavenga of Fulton; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two wives, Mettie and Genevieve; two brothers, David and Martin Klavenga.
