Obituary for Irvin M. Workman
IRVIN M. WORKMAN, 87, of 208 Ash Avenue in Morrison, IL died Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Morrison, IL. Irvin was born on November 11, 1921 in Morrison, IL to Lewis and Mary (Naakteboren) Workman. He was educated in the McElrath School of rural Whiteside County and was a 1940 graduate of Morrison High School in Morrison, IL. He married Lorraine Smith on September 15, 1943 in Morrison, IL. Irvin was a member of the U.S. Army serving during World War II and was awarded a Purple Heart. He was first employed by Brands Heating in Morrison, IL until 1949 when he and his wife Lorraine established Workman Heating and Air Conditioning in Morrison. In 1960 he expanded the business to include plumbing. Irvin was a member of Ebenezer Reformed Church in Morrison, IL and served as an usher for 53 years. Irvin was also a member of the Morrison American Legion Post #328. He enjoyed traveling and spending winters in Florida. Survivors include Lorraine, his wife of 66 years; two sons, Jim (Diane) Workman of Morrison, IL and Bob (Vicky) Workman of Morrison, IL; four grandchildren, Jeff (Michele) Workman, Michael Workman, Todd (Pam) Workman, Tami (Brian) Hedgren; and eight great grandchildren, Jaeden and Chase Workman, Kyle, Seth and Malerie Workman, and Austin, Eric and Brea Hedgren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Pearline Vegter; and one brother, Louis Workman.
