Obituary for Homer W. Bowen
HOMER "CURLEY" BOWEN, 81, of 109 S. Church St. Albany, IL, died Wednesday, May 17, 2006, peacefully at his home. He was born in Timewell, IL on November 20, 1924 to E.A. "Bill" and Rose (Hultz) Bowen. While stationed at the Ottumwa Naval Air Station, Ottumwa, IA, he met and married the love of his life, Juanita June Crawley on June 25, 1944. Mr. Bowen served in the World War II before his discharge from the US Navy in December of 1945. He returned to Golden, IL, where he farmed briefly before moving his family to Kingston Mines, IL to begin a career as a truck transport driver for FS Services. In 1954, he became a part of the original group of drivers in the Farm Supply terminal in Albany, IL where he lived until his death. While in Albany, he became active in Scouting, served as President of the Albany Grade School Board and was an active member of the Masonic Lodge. With his wife as the Worthy Matron, he served as the Worthy Patron of the Eastern Star. He spent his life enjoying camping, boating, and various outdoor activities with his wife and children. He spent years following his children and later his grandchildren through the various sports and activities. Upon his retirement he and his wife became "snowbirds" on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi and spent their summers in Northern Minnesota and Arkansas enjoying their grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, his dear beloved great aunt, Helen Hoy; one daughter, Shirley Weidlein of Hermantown, MN; three sons, Gary (Marguerite) Bowen and Randy (Marlene) Bowen both Hermantown, MN, and Rick (Tammy) of Stuttgart, AR; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; three sisters, Mary (Dale) Eiken of AZ; Doris (Jim) Miles of Quincy, IL and Alice (John) Green of Eldridge, IA. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Glenn and Bob.
