Obituary for Henry A. Wiersema
HENRY A. WIERSEMA, 82, of 802 Lucas Avenue, Thomson, IL, died Friday, March 12, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center North, Clinton, IA. Henry was born July 7, 1927 in Fulton, IL, to John "Jack" and Katherine (Haan) Wiersema. He was educated in the Otter Bluff School of rural Whiteside County, IL. Henry was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. He married Irma J. Hoogheem on March 20, 1953 in Fulton. He was engaged in farming in the rural Thomson area from 1954 until 1977. He then was employed at CF Industries in Albany, IL, until his retirement. Henry was a member of Trinity Reformed Church in Fulton, Thomson American Legion-Donald Ashpole Post #1025, and the Carroll County Farm Bureau. Henry greatly enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He also took a great deal of pride in maintaining his farm equipment and enjoyed wildlife, especially feeding the birds. Survivors include his wife, Irma; three daughters, Deb (Don) Robinson of Prophetstown, IL; Linda (Craig) Robinson of Thomson, IL and Kristi (Stan) Sliva of Itasca, IL; one son, Jim (Shirley) Wiersema of Mt. Carroll, IL; ten grandchildren, Jennifer (Matt) Drew, Julie Robinson, Michael Robinson, Matthew (Betsy) Robinson, Monica Robinson, Spencer and Cooper Sliva, Becky (Brett) Yochem, Shelley Wiersema, and Katie Wiersema; two great grandchildren, Caleb Cunniff and Reilly Yochem; three sisters, Katherine Smith and Delores (Don) Goodridge both of Fulton; and Patsy (Gary) Bechtel of Morrison, IL; five brothers, Edwin Wiersema, John (Bea) Wiersema, and Kenneth Wiersema all of Fulton; Vernon (Donna) Wiersema of Houston, TX and Steven (Gloria) Wiersema of Colorado Springs, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Donald and Thomas Wiersema.
