Obituary for Helen M. Buikema
HELEN M. BUIKEMA, 85, of Fulton, IL, died Friday, October 17, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center North, Clinton, IA. Helen was born November 12, 1928, in Mt. Carroll, IL, to Charles and Nellie (Worden) Remrey. She was educated in the Fulton Grade Schools and attended Fulton High School. Helen married Louis A. Buikema on February 26, 1948, in Clinton, IA. He died November 30, 2011. Helen was employed by the GTE Telephone Company Morrison Office for 26 years. She was a member of the Spring Valley Reformed Church in Fulton, IL, and the church"s Ladies Aid Society. Helen was a 42 year member of the Fulton American Legion Post #402 Auxiliary and a member of the Fulton Wa-Tan-Ye Club. She enjoyed bowling and was active in the Tuesday Evening Women"s Bowling League. She served as a Cub Scout Den Mother, was a volunteer for the Riverbend Schools Library and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include two daughters, Cheryl (Gary) Green of Fulton, IL, and Vicki (Dan) Bly of Fulton, IL; two sons, Jeff (Brenda) Buikema of Clinton, IA, and Tim Buikema of Albany, IL; thirteen grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; one sister, Anna Mae Boyert of Camanche, IA; and one brother, Ray (Marilyn) Remrey of Thomson, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Louis; four sisters, Charlotte Barsema, Betty Rumfelt, Marcella Thompson, and Ruby Hamm; five brothers, Ralph Remrey, Donald "Bud" Remrey, Bob Remrey, Harry "Sonny" Remrey; and Dan Remrey.
