Obituary for Hazel P. Venhuizen
HAZEL P. VENHUIZEN, 97, of Albany, IL, died Monday December 31, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center North in Clinton, IA.
Her funeral service is at 1:00 PM Monday, January 7, 2019 at the Albany United Methodist Church, preceded by a visitation from 11:00 AM until the time of the service. Pastor Toni Lucas will be officiating. The Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Interment will be in Lusk Memorial Cemetery in Albany. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to be made to Albany United Methodist Church or Albany Indian Mounds.
Hazel was born January 24, 1921, in Newton Township, Whiteside County, IL, to Isaac and Nellie (Klimstra) Wierenga. She was educated in the rural Whiteside County grade schools and was a graduate of Erie High School in Erie, IL. She married Fred Venhuizen on April 24, 1941 in Garden Plain, IL. He died on October 27, 1967. Hazel was a homemaker and also was employed at General Electric Co. in Morrison for 20 years. She was a member of Albany United Methodist Church and had participated in the Friendly Circle. She was a member of the Friends of the Albany Indian Mounds. Hazel was an avid reader and enjoyed collecting angels and antiques.
Survivors include two daughters, Chris Wilson of Albany and Bonnie (Lennie) Swedell of Adair, IL; one son, Alfred (Vicki) Venhuizen of Mesa, AZ; two grandchildren, David Swedell and Steven (Ashley) Swedell, two great grandchildren, Audrey and Blaine Swedell.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred and one brother, Howard Wierenga.
