Obituary for Hazel M. Juntunen
HAZEL M. LESLEY JUNTUNEN, 95. of Four Seasons Living Center in Morrison, IL, formerly of Sterling, IL, died Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at the Four Seasons Living Center. Hazel was born on August 21, 1913 in Twin Bridges, MT to Perry and Mollie (Wildman) Heller. She was educated in the rural Whiteside County grade schools. She then attended St. Mary"s Community High School for 2 years and graduated from Erie High School in Erie, IL. She later attended Brown"s Business College in Rock Island, IL. She married Joseph Lesley on February 14, 1938 in Valparaiso, IN. He died in June of 1960. She later married Ensio Juntunen on March 22, 1983 in Sterling, IL. He died on November 13, 1991. Hazel was employed in ready to wear sales and Schuster Brothers as a bookkeeper. She moved to Cairo, IL in 1939 where she and her husband Joe operated an appliance store. They moved to Baytown, TX in 1947 and then to Garland, TX in 1951 where she worked in sales and as an assistant buyer at Nieman-Marcus, Dallas. They then moved to Marshall, TX. Following Joe"s death she was employed at CGH Medical Center for 1 year, Gear Corporation for 13 years and Bergner"s Department Store for 5 years. Hazel was a former member of Grace Episcopal Church in Sterling, IL and the church choir, St. Monica Guild and ECW. She was a current member of St. Mary"s Catholic Church in Sterling, IL. Survivors include one sister, Sr. Wilma Heller of Encino, CA; seven nieces and nephews including Douglas Hull of Prophetstown, IL; and several great and great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; four sisters, Florence Heller, Irene Lindberg, Laura Hull and Shirley Henwood; and two brothers, Robert and Clarence Heller.
