Obituary for Hazel M. Johnson

HAZEL M. JOHNSON, 91, of Resthave Nursing Home, Morrison, IL, died Tuesday, April 4, 2006, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling, IL. Hazel was born December 28, 1914 in Morrison, IL, to Charles and Irma (Nowlen) Ward. She was educated in the Hiddleson School of rural Whiteside County, and graduated from Morrison High School. Hazel married Edward J. Johnson on November 26, 1940 in Morrison, IL. He died June 20, 1983. She engaged in farming with her husband in the rural Morrison area, and also had worked at Volckman"s Furniture and Morrison True Value. She was a member of the Bethesda Lutheran Church where she had been the treasurer of the Sunday School and a life member of the church"s Guild. She had helped with Girl Scouts for several years. Survivors include two daughters, Lorraine (Mrs. Gary) Doden of Cortland, IL and Nancy (Mrs. Steven) Billups of Princeton, IA; five grandchildren, Julie (Mrs. Ronald) Eriksen and Angela (Mrs. Anthony) Yench both of Aurora, IL; Adam Doden stationed in Belarus with the U.S. Marines; Meghan Billups of Monmouth, IL and Nathan Billups of Iowa City, IA; five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; one sister, Mary Ward; two brothers, George and John Ward.
