Obituary for Harold E. Vance
HAROLD E. VANCE, 87, of 200 10th Street, Fulton, IL, died Thursday, December 29, 2005, at Wyndcrest Nursing Home in Clinton, IA. Harold was born May 23, 1918 in Macomb, IL, to John A. and Dora O. (Ellis) Vance. He was educated in the Colchester, IL Grade Schools and was a graduate of Colchester High School. Harold received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Western IL University in Macomb, IL; his Masters of Education from the University of IL, and had Doctoral hours at the University of WI in Madison, WI. Harold married Eloise L. Conley on January 16, 1943. She died on March 26, 1964. He then married Beulah J. (Daw) James on March 10, 1966 in Rock Falls, IL. Harold taught for 37 years in Arrow Smith, German Valley, Elburn, and most recently Riverbend Schools in Fulton, IL. He had also taught G.I. classes and been employed by the Fulton Flood Control District for 11 years. Harold was a member of Fulton Presbyterian Church where he had served as an elder, a trustee, a Sunday School teacher, and a building committee member. He was a member of Fulton City Lodge #189-AF & AM. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed fishing and boating. Survivors include his wife, Beulah; two daughters, Dianne (Dr. Richard) Londo of Roscoe, IL and Ladora (Mrs. Larry) Eberle of Richmond, VA; three stepsons, Paul James of Rock Falls, IL; Donald (Judy) James of Erie, IL; and Charles (Susan) James of Sacramento, CA; eleven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Claribel Carson of San Diego, CA. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Eloise; three sisters, and four brothers.
