Obituary for Harold Bud Huggins
HAROLD H. "BUD" HUGGINS, 87, of 102 Lime Street, Albany, IL, died Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at Harbor Crest Nursing Home in Fulton, IL. Bud was born January 30, 1922, in Albany, IL, to Clyde and Beatrice (Haynes) Huggins. He was educated in the Albany Grade and High Schools. He married Lorraine E. Vogel on February 14, 1946 in Fulton, IL. During WWII he served in the 3rd Division, 30th Infantry, Company C of the U.S. Army. Bud was first employed by the former Chicago & Northwestern and the Rock Island Railroads. He then co-owned and operated, along with his parents, Huggins Grocery in Albany, until 1959. After that he worked for General Electric in Morrison, IL, retiring in 1984. Bud was a member of Trinity Reformed Church in Fulton, IL, were he was a past member of the Men"s League and served several terms as a deacon. He was a 37 year member of the Albany Fire Department, a member and past Commander of the Albany American Legion Hanson/Kennedy Post #1079. During the 1965 flood he served as a member of the Whiteside County Civil Defense, serving as a duck operator. He was a member of Friends of Albany Indian Mounds. His personal interests included railroads, military history and American Indians. Mostly he enjoyed the fellowship with his family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Lorraine; one daughter, Marlene (Everett) Stone of Clinton, IA; two sons, Duane (Barb) Huggins of Eldridge, IA and Kevin Huggins of Albany; four grandchildren, Yvonne Stone, Jeff (Amanda) Stone, Jason (Jamie) Huggins, Dan (Amy) Huggins; three great grandchildren, Jayce, Kylie and Hannah Stone; one brother, William (Amelia) Huggins of Tucson, AZ. He was preceded in death by one sister, Helen Conkwright.
