GORDON L. SISSING, 85, of Holland, MI, formerly of Garden Plain, IL, died Saturday, June 10, 2023 at Resthaven Care Center in Holland, MI.
His funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 17, 2023 at First Reformed Church in Fulton, IL with his granddaughter, Jessica VanderKolk officiating. A visitation will be held from 1:30 p.m. until the start of the service. The Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Interment will be at 5:00PM in Garden Plain Cemetery. A memorial has been established.
Gordon was born April 15, 1938 in Clinton, IA to Clarence and Pearl W. (Klimstra) Sissing. He was educated in the Garden Plain Grade School and was a 1956 graduate of Fulton High School. Gordon later graduated from the University of Illinois, Champaign, IL in 1961 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Agriculture. Gordon was a veteran of the Army Reserve Forces. On February 25, 1961 he married Jane E. Moody in Erie, IL. Together they fostered numerous children. Gordon farmed in the Garden Plain area for 43 years. He was a member of the First Reformed Church where he served as a deacon and elder. During the winter months, after retiring, he attended the First Baptist Church of Sarasota, FL. While in Florida he used his time and skills to do volunteer work. He was a member of the Whiteside County Farm Bureau and served on many various community boards, including the Whiteside County School Trustee Board. He enjoyed playing shuffleboard and participating in activities at the Evergreen Commons while in Holland, MI. Gordon loved watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren perform in sporting events and other endeavors.
Survivors include his wife, Jane; three children; Michael (Christine) Sissing of Holland, MI; Marc (Lauralea) Sissing of Eau Claire, WI; and Michelle (Jason) Koglin of Los Alamos, NM; eight grandchildren, Jessica (Kendall) VanderKolk, Tarah (Taylor) Webb, Jason (Abigail) Sissing, Mariah (Joshua) VandeBunte, Tyler (Lori) Sissing, Thaddeus, Shelby Sissing and Sebastian Koglin; ten great grandchildren, Oliver, Lily, Luella, Sidney, Eleanor, Finneas, Wesley, Gabriel, Silas and Stella; one sister, Sandra (William) Church of Holland, MI; one sister in law, Ruth Joslin of Evanston, IL; one brother in law, Gerald Moody of Sarasota FL.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one great granddaughter, in infancy.
