Obituary for Gladys Vandermyde
GLADYS VANDERMYDE, 93, of Resthave Nursing Home, Morrison, IL, died Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at the nursing home. Gladys was born May 22, 1918 in Morrison, IL, to John and Lena (Buis) Dykstra. She was educated in the Morrison Grade Schools and attended Morrison High School in Morrison, IL. Gladys married Vernon W. "Bill" Vandermyde on May 1, 1941 in Morrison. He died July 22, 2001. She was an operator for the Morrison Telephone Company and a homemaker. Gladys was a member of Ebenezer Reformed Church, where she participated in the Lydian Society, Ladies Aid, and was a catechism teacher. She was a member of the Whiteside County Homemakers. Gladys, along with her husband, Bill, enjoyed taking trips on their motorcycle. Survivors include one daughter, Judy (David) VanderBleek of Moline, IL; one son, Robert (Carolyn) Vandermyde of Morrison, IL; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; four step great grandchildren and five step great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill and her twin sister, Thelma Wierenga.
