Obituary for Gertrude R. Landis
GERTRUDE R. LANDIS, 94, of Davison, MI, formerly of Morrison, IL, died Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at her home.Gertrude was born on February 10, 1923, in Fulton, IL, to George A. and Naomi B. (Kinney) Huggins. She was educated in the Cedar Creek Grade School of rural Whiteside County, attended Albany High School and was a graduate of Morrison High School (1941). She attended the Scovill Business College in Clinton, IA. On October 4, 1953, she married Fay C. Landis in Garden Plain, IL. He died November 9, 1998. Gertrude farmed along with her husband, Fay, for 45 years on the family farm located in the White Pigeon area of rural Morrison. She was a secretary and typist at Camp Hale, Colorado during World War II, typist at Burpee Seed Co. in Clinton, IA and worked at GE in Morrison, IL for five years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Morrison and the Sage Guild. She sang solos at church and for weddings and enjoyed playing the piano. Gertrude loved spending time with her family and friends, sending cards and letters, working in her garden, reading and poetry.Survivors include one son, Ray (Marjie) Landis of Davison, MI; one son-in-law, Jim Westerhof; seven grandchildren, Ricky (Debra) Clark, Alena (Michael) Jacquette, Susan Shellhorn, Brian (Soon-yi) Kerkove, Lynette (Mike) Hansen, Randy Kerkove, James C. Landis; eleven great grandchildren, Megan (Patrick) Hawkins, Kathi Kerkove,Amber (Corey) Doty, Corie and Wil Shellhorn, Maranda Schaney, Hayley Feary, Cole Clark, Camryn Clark, Cael Clark, Elizabeth (Lissa) Hansen, and one great great grandson.She was preceded in death by her husband, Fay; two daughters, Ruth Ann Clark and Naomi Westerhof; one son-in-law, Perry Clark of Freeport, IL; three grandchildren, Paul Clark, Sarah Clark and Kathy Kerkove; one great granddaughter, Morgan Clark; two sisters, Nellie Scott and Iola Huggins in infancy; one brother, G. Robert Huggins

FUNERAL: 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, October 11, 2017, at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home OFFICIATING: Rev. Dr. James Camp VISITATION: 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 10, 2017, at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home INTERMENT: Grove Hill Cemetery - Morrison, IL
