Obituary for Gertrude J. Heiken
GERTRUDE J. HEIKEN, 84, of Rock Island, IL, formerly of Fulton, IL, died Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at her home in Rock Island.
There will be no funeral service or visitation. A private family burial will take place at Fulton Township Cemetery in Fulton, IL. The Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home is assisting the family. A memorial has been established.
Gertrude was born March 6, 1936, in Thomson, IL, to Harold L. and Josephine (Noordhof) Shelly. She was educated in the rural Jackson County, IA grade schools and attended Maquoketa schools in Maquoketa, IA. Gertrude married Wendell George Heiken on November 27, 1955, in Maquoketa. He died August 14, 1998. Gertrude was employed by International Paper Company in Clinton, IA, for 29 years. She enjoyed yard work, maintaining her home, planning parties, and spending time with her family.
Survivors include three children, Steve (Laura) Heiken of Camanche, IA; Brenda Heiken of Rock Island, IL; and Larry (Kathy) Heiken of Clinton, IA; seven grandchildren, Paul (Rex) Heiken, Andrea (Brandon) Ryan, Stephanie Heiken, Victoria (Luc Faur) Breeden, Rhiannon Hagen, Emily (Alex) Juist, and Stephanie Hagen; two honorary grandchildren, Robin Bright and Brandon Hagen; many great-grandchildren; and one brother, Richard (Judith) Shelly of Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wendell and one brother, Donald Shelly.
