Obituary for Gertrude I. Poole
GERTRUDE I. POOLE, 101, of 1225 11th Avenue, Fulton, IL, died Friday, May 19, 2006 at her residence. Gertrude was born June 15, 1904 in Garden Plain Township, Whiteside Co., IL, to John and Anna (Akker) Poole. She was educated in the Fulton Grade School and graduated from Fulton High School. She attended Northern IL University in DeKalb, IL, Yale University and then the University of IL in Champaign-Urbana, where she received her Master"s Degree in Chemistry. She taught school in various rural Whiteside County schools, including East Clinton School, Lockhart School and Strawn School. She then taught at Fulton Elementary School and also served as the librarian at the Schmaling Public Library in Fulton. She was a charter member of Second Reformed Church in Fulton, and taught Sunday school. She was a member of the Fulton Women"s Club. Survivors include two nieces, Ann (Mrs. Howard) Harvey of Oak Ridge, TN and Mrs. Lynn Zahnle of Fulton, IL; two grand nieces, four grand nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Grace Poole and Janet Fovargue; two brothers, John Poole and one in infancy.
