Obituary for Gerald L. Sharer
GERALD L. RED SHARER, 95, of Fulton, IL, died Friday, June 17, 2016, at Harbor Crest Home, Fulton, IL. Gerald was born April 18, 1921, in Newton Township, IL, to Murry L. and Catherine B. (Tucker) Sharer. He was educated in the Albany Grade School in Albany, IL and was a 1939 graduate of Erie High School in Erie, IL. Jerry served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II in the European Theater. He married Evelyn M. Holesinger on April 24, 1942, in Garden Plain, IL. She died January 23, 2014. Jerry was first employed at Lee"s Phillips 66 in Albany, IL. He later worked for John Deere in East Moline, IL for 37 years. Jerry was a member of First Reformed Church in Fulton, IL, and the Fulton American Legion Post #402. Survivors include one daughter, Marie (Rex) Winget of Fulton, IL; one son, Wayne (Deb) Sharer of Milan, IL; one son-in-law, John Sykes of Mocksville, NC; nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Evelyn; one daughter, Karen Sykes; one grandson, Mark Walters; two sisters, Mary Lou Medema and Katherine Williams; and one brother, Lloyd "Cork" Sharer.
