Obituary for Gerald B. Wingett
GERALD B. "JERRY" WINGETT, 70, of 1107 13th Avenue, Fulton, IL, died Saturday, July 4, 2009, at Eagle Point Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Clinton, IA. Jerry was born September 20, 1938 in Cedar Rapids, IA to Bernard A. and Elizabeth L. (Main) Wingett. He attended grade schools and Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids, IA. Jerry married Pamby Irvin in Cedar Rapids. He later married Carol Hoogheem-Fredricks on July 1, 1972 in Rockton, IL. He was first employed by LeFebure Corp. of Cedar Rapids and later was employed as a commercial insulator for Union Local #81 in Cedar Rapids, until retiring in 1993. He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Galena, IL; the Fulton City Lodge #189 AF Kaaba Shrine in Moline, IL and Wheel Horse Patrol and was a former member of Fulton Lions Club. He was co-founder of the Illowa Thrift Store in Fulton and was an active volunteer in the Prison Ministry in Edinburg, TX. He regularly conducted Sunday worship services at the Seven Eagles Campground in Savanna, IL. He enjoyed camping and traveled extensively with his motor home. He also enjoyed golfing, blue grass and jazz music, and dancing. Survivors include his wife, Carol; two daughters, Terri Fredricks of LeRoy, IL and Jennetta Williams of Solon, IA; three sons, Leonard "Butch" Wingett of Des Moines, IA; Matt Wingett of Cedar Rapids, IA; and Barry Fredricks of Fulton, IL; eight grandchildren, Austin and Shelby Williams, Jeremiah (April) Wingett, Logan Wingett, Jami and Adam Fredricks, Desirae and Harlei Wingett; one great grandson, Landen Green; and one sister, Bette Anne Davis of Cedar Rapids. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Michael Wingett.
