Obituary for George H. Meegan
GEORGE H. MEEGAN, 78, of 306 S. Church Street, Albany, IL, died Thursday, December 1, 2005 at his home. George was born April 23, 1927, in Cambridge, MA, to Kenneth M. and Madeline L. (Wallace) Meegan. He was educated in the Boston schools and graduated from a Boston area high school. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He married Jean A. Byers on December 1, 1951 in Boston. George had worked for the Barrington, IL school District in the maintenance department. He then was employed by the city of Crystal Lake, IL as foreman for the Water and Sewer Department until retiring in 1988. He had served as a Village of Albany Trustee and helped implement the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund plan for the Village employees. He enjoyed music and was an accomplished organist. He was known for his poetry writings. Survivors include his wife, Jean; one daughter, Pegi (Mrs. Jerry) Cahill of Plano, TX; three sons, Paul (Pegi) Meegan of South Barrington, IL, Dan (Kelly) Meegan of Antioch, IL and Kevin (Cynthia) Meegan of Clinton, IL; seven grandchildren, Marci Hoeft, Matthew Hoeft, Jenifer Cahil; Kelly and Ryan Meegan; Monica (Mrs. Jeremy) Holtzee, Kendra Meegan; one great grandchild, Keira Holtzee; one sister, Mrs. Marjorie Astrofski of Quincy, MA; one brother, Edwin Hearson of West Palm Beach, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents.
