Obituary for Fred L. Fiet
FRED L. FIET, 81, of Fulton, IL, formerly of Thomson, IL, died Friday, March 4, 2016, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, IA.Fred was born October 3, 1934, in Fulton, IL, to Alvin and Alice (Norman) Fiet. He was educated in the Fulton Grade Schools and was a 1952 graduate of Fulton High School. He married Mary Jane Ottens on December 30, 1953 in Morrison, IL. He served in the U. S. Navy. Fred was co-owner of the Fulton Meat Market for over 30 years. He was also a renowned national antique firearms dealer and founder of Collector Arms Dealers Association, serving as secretary/treasurer. In addition Fred owned and managed various businesses including grocery stores, restaurants and laundromats. Fred was a 50 year member of the American Legion Thomson Post 1025; a 50 year member of Lyons Lodge #93 AF & AM in Clinton, IA; a 50 year member of the Fulton City Lodge #189 AF & AM in Fulton, IL; the Clinton Scottish Rite and the Kaaba Shrine in Davenport, IA. He served as a Thomson Village Trustee and Mayor and also served on the Tri-Township Airport Authority. Fred was a life time member of the National Rifle Association. In his younger years, Fred enjoyed playing fast-pitch softball. Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane; two daughters, Kathy (Bob) Eagle of Thomson, IL and Karen (Jim) Marshall of Clinton, IA; four grandchildren, Zach, Ben and Amber Eagle, Anna Marshall; five great grandchildren, Aiden and Liam Eagle, Lily Eagle, Sean and Cole Keyte; one sister, Sharon (Duane) Zuidema of Fulton, IL.Fred was preceded in death by his parents.
