Obituary for Francis A. Lonnie Handel
FRANCIS A. "LONNIE" HANDEL JR., 62, of Savanna, IL, died Wednesday, September 8, 2010, at Harbor Crest Nursing Home in Fulton, IL. Lonnie was born October 24, 1947, in Iowa City, IA, to Francis A. Sr. and Jean (Johnson) Handel. He was educated in the Savanna Grade Schools and graduated from Savanna High School in 1966. He attended Harris County Community College in Houston, TX. Lonnie served in the U.S. Navy. He married Katherina M. Close on January 7, 1967 in Savanna, IL. He was employed by Shaner and Handel of Savanna. He had also worked for General Electric in Houston, TX. Lonnie enjoyed model railroading and spending time with his granddaughter. Survivors include his wife, Kathy; one son, Chris (Mandy) Handel of Sabula, IL; one granddaughter, Caliegh Jo Handel, one sister, Peggy (Mason) Campbell of Roanoke, VA. He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Heidi Jo Handel.
