Obituary for Flora Huizenga
Flora Huizenga, 97, died Thursday, August 12, 2021, at Rock River Hospice and Home in Sterling, IL.
A private family graveside service will be held at Fulton Township Cemetery in Fulton, IL, Rev. Kevin VerHoeven, Pastor of Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Fulton, will officiate. The Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. A memorial has been established to Unity Christian School.
Flora was born August 14, 1923, in Fulton, IL, to Tonnis “Tony” and Catherine (Borgman) Post. Flora was educated in Excelsior Christian School in Fulton and was a 1941 graduate of Fulton High School in Fulton, IL. She then graduated from Scoville Business College in Clinton, IA. She married Robert J. Huizenga on June 13, 1944 in Fulton, IL. He died on August 23, 1986. Flora was employed at Fidelity Life Insurance in Fulton and she was also a homemaker. She was a charter member of Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Fulton where she was involved with Lydia Society and the Christian School Auxiliary. Flora's greatest joy in life was her devotion to her family and her faith, as demonstrated by her daily prayers for all her family members by name.
Survivors include four daughters, Kathy (John) Byker of Clinton, IA, Susan (Al) De Waard of Stone Lake, WI, Sally (Darrell) Meinsma and Mary (Wayne) Wiersema both of Fulton, IL; three sons, Steven (Terry) Huizenga of Flossmoor, IL, Doug (Linda) Huizenga and Jack (Kathy) Huizenga both of Fulton, IL; twenty-six grandchildren, Robert Byker, Erik Byker, Lisa De Waard - McDermott, Kristia Hannawalt, Jason Huizenga, Lora Copley, Jonathan De Waard, Tony Huizenga, Nicholas Huizenga, Joseph Huizenga, Michael Huizenga, Jennifer Dykstra, Jeremy Wiersema, Holly Small, Cathy Eversoll, Jacqueline Meinsma, Katie VandenBosch , Angela Tichler, Jessica McCollum, Thomas Byker, Alexandra Chigarova, Amanda Boonstra, Allison Struve, James Huizenga, Brian Meinsma, Kari Huizenga; fifty-two great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; one sister, Jeanette Brondyke of Savanna, IL; one sister-in-law, Eunice Swanson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert ; one granddaughter, Tara Suzanne De Waard ; one grandson, Elisha Allen Wiersema ; one great-grandson, Isaac Jonathan Dykstra.
