Obituary for Everett D. "Burr" Hughes
EVERETT D. “BURR” HUGHES, 73, of Morrison, IL, died Saturday, November 28, 2020, at Rock River Hospice & Home in Sterling, IL.
Cremation rites will be accorded. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date and the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home is assisting the family. Memorials may be made to Rock River Hospice & Home or Clinton Humane Society.
Everett was born July 21, 1947, in Columbus, KY, to Everett S. and Lovie M. (Palsgrove) Hughes. He graduated from Sterling High School in Sterling, IL. Everett joined the U.S. Army in 1966 and served during the Vietnam War until 1968. He married Kathy A. Snyder on March 8, 1989, in Las Vegas, NV. Everett began working at General Electric in Morrison in 1971 and worked until retirement in 2007. During his time at GE, he developed his well-known nickname of “Burr”. Growing up, he enjoyed fishing then later he loved playing softball on various men’s leagues and played on the Johnnie’s Tap team. Burr enjoyed bowling and was on the GE Midnight league and also the Thursday night men’s league. He also enjoyed a good round of golf. Burr loved watching the Chicago Bears & the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy; one sister, Jan (Ric) Cupp of Florida; two brothers, Ron Hughes of Sterling, IL and Deron “Joe” (Melanie) Hughes of Rock Falls, IL; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and several aunts and uncles.
