Obituary for Evelyn M. Sharer
EVELYN M. SHARER, 92, of Fulton, IL, died Thursday, January 23, 2014, at her home. Evelyn was born December 31, 1921, in Garden Plain, IL, to Henry and Bertha (Bonneur) Holesinger. She was educated in the Lockhart grade schools in rural Garden Plain and was a 1940 graduate of Erie High School in Erie, IL. She married Gerald L. Sharer on April 24, 1942, in Garden Plain, IL. While living in Dayton, OH, Evelyn worked as a bank teller. She owned and operated the Hilltop Motel in Fulton, IL. After leaving the hotel business, Evelyn went to work at Nielsen Clearing House in Clinton, IA, retiring in 1983. She was a member of First Reformed Church in Fulton, where she participated in the Ladies Helping Hand Society. She enjoyed fishing, especially the family fishing trips to Wisconsin. She also enjoyed playing cards and doing crossword puzzles. Survivors include her husband, Gerald Sharer of Fulton, IL; two daughters, Marie (Rex) Winget of Fulton, IL and Karen (John) Sykes of Mocksville, NC; one son, Wayne (Deb) Sharer of Milan, IL; nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and one sister, Margaret (Sid) Dykstra of Fulton, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Robert and Floyd Holesinger; and one grandson, Mark Walters.
