Obituary for Evelyn L. Sterenberg
EVELYN L. STERENBERG, 95, of The Alverno, Clinton, IA, formerly of Fulton, IL, died Thursday, June 12, 2014, at The Alverno. Evelyn was born March 31, 1919, in Fulton, IL, to Peter J. and Abbie (Balk) Wiersema. She attended Fulton Grade Schools and was a 1937 graduate of Fulton High School in Fulton, IL. Evelyn married Paul G. Sterenberg on October 22, 1946, in Fulton, IL. He died April 30, 2005. Evelyn was first employed by Fulton Finance Company for 3 years. She then was employed in the Investment Department of the former Fidelity Life Insurance Association in Fulton, IL, for 15 years. Evelyn was a member of Second Reformed Church in Fulton and a member of the church"s Ladies Mission Circle, Senior Choir, and Adult Sunday School Class. She served as the church"s organist for 42 years. She was a charter member of T.O.P.S. IL 896 in Fulton. Evelyn enjoyed visiting family and grandchildren, reading Christian novels, doing old fashioned bookwork, Bible reading and study, and going to church. Survivors include one daughter, Sharon Stevenson of Clinton, IA; two grandchildren, Rachel Barlow and Jason Barlow; six great-grandchildren, Alexandria "Lexi" Barlow, Angela Galant, Molly Galant, Ty Barlow, Layla Barlow, and Denny Barlow. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul.
