Obituary for Eunice M. Balk
EUNICE M. BALK, 89, of Prairie Hills at Clinton in Clinton, IA, formerly of Fulton, IL, died Friday, October 24, 2014, at Prairie Hills. Eunice was born September 23, 1925, in Fulton, IL, to Lambert and Martha (Gunnink) Lyzenga. She was educated in the Albany Grade and High Schools in Albany, IL and was a graduate of Fulton High School in Fulton, IL. Eunice married Arthur Balk on July 27, 1946, in Fulton, IL. He died September 8, 2012. She was employed by Thomas Oakes Company in Clinton, IA; Jahn"s Home Furnishings in Fulton, IL; Lockhart Insurance Agency in Fulton, IL; and most recently Bi-County Special Education Cooperative as a bookkeeper. Eunice was a member of the Second Reformed Church in Fulton. She served as church secretary, catechism teacher, and choir member. She enjoyed sewing, needlework, traveling, yardwork, reading, and volunteering at the Fulton Windmill. Survivors include one daughter, Sue (Dale) Sterenberg of Morrison, IL; one son, Tom (Carol) Balk of Thomson, IL; four grandchildren, Emalie Sterenberg, Brandy (Gene) Gonyier, Kristy Wolever, and Amber Truckenmiller; seven great-grandchildren, Ashton, Dillon, Austen, and Dallis Gonyier; Serissa Wolever, Cosmo and Wyatt Benson; one great-great-granddaughter, Jayden Cook; two sisters, Ann Marion of Evansville, IN, and Betty Henry of Albany, IL; two brothers, Gilbert (Grace) Lyzenga of Dyer, IN, and Marvin (Nancy) Lyzenga of Sherrillville, IN; and one sister-in-law, Bonnie Lyzenga of Bradenton, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arthur; two brothers, Franklin and Richard Lyzenga; one sister-in-law, Ida Lyzenga; two brothers-in-law, Don Marion and Harold Henry.
