Obituary for Eugene R. Hammond
EUGENE R. HAMMOND, 78, of 901 N. Washington, Mt. Carroll, IL, died Friday, July 18, 2008, at Morrison Community Hospital, Morrison, IL. Eugene was born February 14, 1930 in Fulton, IL, to Alvin and Henrietta (Buikema) Hammond. He was educated in the Fulton grade schools and attended Fulton High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Eugene married Mae L. Hoogheem on January 30, 1951 in Fulton, IL. She died February 8, 2003. Eugene farmed in the rural Mt. Carroll area from 1954 to 1972. He then worked at Alco Dispensing in Savanna. Eugene, along with his wife, also, helped at Flower Fan-A-See Floral Shop in Mt. Carroll. Eugene was a member of Mt. Carroll United Methodist Church. He was an avid bird watcher and enjoyed gardening and yardwork. Survivors include two daughters, Gaylene S. Hammond of Fulton, IL and Janis (Mrs. Olen E.) Pepple of Mt. Carroll, IL; four grandchildren, Alyssa M. Wiedenhoff, Anya Wiedenhoff, Silas (Margaret) Pepple, and Olen J. (Michiko) Pepple; three great grandchildren, Keaton James and Lucas Tingley; and Misa Mae Pepple; two sisters, LaVerta (Don) Grandlinard of Argos, IN and Lois Hansen of Gardena, CA; two step brothers, Harold (Dee) Holesinger of Springfield, IL and Raymond (Charlene) Holesinger of Rockford, IL. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mae; two step brothers, Kenneth and Edward Holesinger.
