Obituary for Esther M. Smith
ESTHER M. SMITH, 93, of 15045 Frog Pond Road in Fulton, IL died Saturday, June 20, 2009 at Harbor Crest Nursing Home in Fulton, IL. Esther was born on November 3, 1915 in Thomson, IL to Dave and Kate (Voss) Geerts. She was educated in the Thomson Grade School in Thomson, IL. She married Peter C. Smith on February 21, 1935 in Garden Plain, IL. He preceded her in death on May 7, 2008. Esther farmed along with her late husband in the rural Garden Plain Township area. She was a member of Second Reformed Church in Fulton, IL and served on the church"s Ladies Aid Society, Willing Workers and Mission Circle. She was a Sunday School teacher for 33 years. Esther was also a member of the Harbor Crest Nursing Home Auxiliary and a Chapter Sponsor for Future Homemakers of America. She enjoyed needle work including needle point, embroidery, sewing, baking, canning, gardening and playing cards. Survivors include two daughters, Phyllis (Al) Heun of Fulton, IL, Margaret (Gene) Pessman of Morrison, IL; one son, Vernon (Linda) Smith of Fulton, IL; one daughter-in-law, Sylvia Smith of Chula Vista, CA; fourteen grandchildren, Kevin (Susan) Heun, Kimberly Wolf, Kurt (Kristi) Heun, Craig Pessman, Joy (Don) Tegeler, Becky McLuckie, Kathy (Brent) Stoecker, Susan (Bill) Phillips, Betsy (Don) Jones, Carrie (Matt) Goodding, Eric (Deidre) Smith, Stephanie (Nicholas) Proud, Mark (Kim) Smith, Russell (Aom) Smith; four step-grandchildren, Sylvia O"Neal, Nicole (Robert) Kennedy, Marcos (Alexandra) Chapman, Edward Chapman; twenty-five great grandchildren; six step great grandchildren; one sister, Pauline Koenes of Fulton, IL. She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter; one son, Robert Smith; two sisters, Pherna Prins, Lida Etnyre; two brothers, Charlie and Paul Geerts.
