Obituary for Elmer J. Prins
ELMER J. PRINS, 83, of Windsor Manor, Morrison, IL, died Friday, September 4, 2015, at the VA Medical Center, Iowa City, IA. Elmer was born December 25, 1931, in Morrison, IL, to John A. and Helen (VanZuiden) Prins. He was educated in the Green School of rural Whiteside County. Elmer served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Elmer married Mabel J. VanDyke on June 12, 1953, in Morrison, IL. She died December 5, 1990. He later married Luella (Housenga) Dykstra on October 1, 1994 in Morrison, IL. She died June 21, 2012. Elmer was employed as a truck driver for various companies retiring in 1996. He was a former member of Ebenezer Reformed Church and a current member of Emmanuel Reformed Church both in Morrison, IL. Elmer enjoyed collecting coins and small scale models of semi trucks. Survivors include three daughters, Marilyn (Arlyn) Tichler of Morrison, IL; Patricia Huisenga of Rock Island, IL; and Diane (Dion) Merema of Rockford, IL; one step daughter, Linda (Jerry) Schlegel of Morrison, IL; three step sons, Steve (Connie) Dykstra, Bruce (Denise) Dykstra, and Rick Dykstra all of Freeport, IL; one step daughter-in-law, Patricia Dykstra of Morrison, IL; five grandsons, Brian J. Tichler, Edward (Jennifer) Huisenga, Ryan Huisenga and fianc"e Shannon Mickelson, Daniel Merema, and Derrick Merema; two great-grandchildren, Hailey and Christian Huisenga; one step great-granddaughter, Nevaeh Mickelson; nine step grandchildren; many step great-grandchildren; one brother, Irvin (Barbara) Prins of Morrison, IL; and one sister-in-law, Susan Prins of Atlanta, GA. He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives, Mabel and Luella; one step son, Richard; one sister, Dorcas Cole; two brothers, Arnold and Kenneth Prins.
