Obituary for Ellis A. Ottens
ELLIS A. OTTENS, 91, of Harbor Crest Nursing Home, Fulton, IL, died Tuesday, November 13, 2007 at the nursing home. Ellis was born April 15, 2007 in Morrison, IL, to Claus and Elsie (Dykhuizen) Ottens. He attended Morrison schools. He married Edith M. Winter on March 18, 1944, in Wilmington, NC. She died May 1, 2001. He served in the US Army during WWII. Ellis worked a number of places, including Sterling Wire in Sterling, IL, the city of Morrison, F. Mueller & Sons in Clinton, IA, and the Savanna Army Depot in Savanna, IL. He was also a union carpenter, retiring in 1977. He was a member of the Fulton Presbyterian Church, the Carpenters" Union Local #678 of Dubuque, IA and the Fulton American Legion Post #402. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Survivors include one daughter, Marla (Mrs. Dan) Murphy of Davenport, IA; one son, Ken (Janice) Ottens of Fulton, IL; six grandchildren, Rachel Murphy-Kline, Luke and Paul Murphy, Erin DeVore; Katherine and Kristina Ottens; three great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Nora Bush of Urbana, IL and Mrs. Pauline Dorathy of Avondale, AZ; one brother, Stanley Ottens of Mt. Carroll, IL. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith; one daughter, Karen Ottens; one brother, John Ottens.
