Obituary for Elizabeth E. Betty Mosher
ELIZABETH "BETTY" E. MOSHER, 97, of Morrison, IL, died on Sunday, May 1, 2016 at Resthave Home in Morrison. Betty was born November 30, 1918 to Henry and Jenny White Bodkin at home in rural Jackson County Iowa. She was educated in the Maquoketa, IA school system and moved to Morrison with her mother shortly after graduation from high school. Betty worked at a variety of local retail stores: the Royal Blue Food Store, Donichy"s Drug Store, Kem Apparel, and a children"s clothing store she owned and operated in the early 60"s. But she was most proud of her work as a tack welder ("Don"t call me Rosie") at the Prairie Shipyard in Seneca, IL. During that time they built, launched and commissioned 157 LST"s, from June of 1942 when the keel was laid for LST-197, until the end of WWII. She married Harry Mosher Jr. on November 23, 1946; he died on November 12, 2013. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Morrison, the Morrison Hospital Auxiliary and also the American Legion Auxiliary for 70 years. Survivors include one son, Richard L. (Connie) Mosher of Morrison; two grandchildren, Brian D. (Jessie) Mosher of Ruther Glen, VA and Tamara L. (Edward) Wolfe of Montclair, VA; eight great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Harry; four brothers, Albert, Ralph, LeRoy and Jahu Bodkin; three sisters, Almeda Bielema, Leona Welch, Maxine Birely; one grandson, Kevin E. Mosher.
