Obituary for Edwin G. Merema
EDWIN G. MEREMA, 85, of 208 Maple Lane, Fulton, IL, died Saturday, April 30, 2011 at Eagle Point Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Clinton, IA. Edwin was born April 11, 1926, in Fulton, IL, to Clarence and Anna (Temple) Merema. He was educated in the rural Whiteside County Lockhart Grade School. He married Betty DeWeerdt on February 15, 1951, in Fulton. Edwin served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He engaged in farming in the rural Fulton area his entire life, retiring in 1990 and moving into town. He was a member of Second Reformed Church in Fulton, where he served as a deacon and belonged to the Men"s Brotherhood. Edwin was also a member of the Whiteside County Farm Bureau. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed playing softball. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Betty; one daughter, Pamela Merema of Chicago, IL; one son, Ronald (Linda) Merema of Fulton, IL; three grandchildren, Jeffrey (Karen) Merema, Michael (Amanda) Merema and Katie (Eric) Roquet; three great grandchildren; one brother, Robert (Theresa) Merema of Fulton. He was preceded in death by one brother, Donald Merema, in infancy.
