Obituary for Earl E. Brown
EARL E. BROWN, 87, of 610 E. 3rd Street, Prophetstown, IL, died Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at CGH Medical Center, Sterling, IL. Earl was born October 18, 1922 in Rochelle, IL to Earl F. and Florence M. (Cronk) Brown. He was educated in the Morrison Grade Schools and was a graduate of Morrison High School in Morrison, IL. He also attended a technical school for training as a machinist. Earl was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during WWII. He married Lois I. Elwood on October 29, 1943 in Palmyra, MO. He was first employed by the former Chicago and Northwestern Railroad as station agent. Later he worked for Penberthy in Prophetstown in the sales department. He then worked as assistant administrator at the Morrison Community Hospital. Most recently, he was employed by Iowa Commission on Aging for Clinton County, Iowa until his retirement. Earl was a member of the Community Congregational Church UCC in Clinton, IA, a member of the Morrison Dunlap Lodge #321-AF & AM and Past Master, and was Past Worthy Patron for the Order of the Eastern Star. He organized a Boy Scout troop and served as Scout Master for LaSalle County, IL. Earl enjoyed being a HAM radio operator. Survivors include his wife, Lois; one daughter, Carole (Steven) Toothman of Lewisburg, OH; one son, Stephen (Carolyn) Brown of Mahomet, IL; three grandchildren, Jennifer (Adam) Solberg, Kurt Paschal, and Catherine (Andrew) Petersen; two great grandchildren, Evan and Ava Solberg; and one sister, Marjorie Rushmeyer of Morrison, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents.
